The SAS patents an intelligent system for dispensing drugs

granadadigital

The Andalusian Healthcare System has patented a new method of dispensing medicines in hospitals, which is safer and cheaper than those that existed until now. The Counsellor of Health has presented it today at the Clinic Hospital of Granada, which has made the pilot of this smart system that other Spanish and foreign hospitals will be able to buy.

The new system is called iPharma. It consists of a computer program and an intelligent circuit that streamlines the distribution of drugs in a hospital. Its creators say that reduces errors by 20 percent and is safer for the patient, but also improves the restocking of drugs in large hospitals like this Clinic of Granada, where every day 60,000 doses of medication are distributed.

It’s cheaper than current US patent system, so it will be very competitive in the international medical market

The invention is the result of collaboration between the healthcare system, the university and a private company. It has already been successfully tested in the clinic hospital in Granada, where it soon will spread to other hospitals and then to all the Andalusian public healthcare centers.
